There are a couple of reasons why Marketers participate in giveaway events.

First, they want to create a relationship with you. They want you to see what they have to offer.

Secondly, they also want you to sign up for their list. That is the key: they are giving you an e-book, report, or some other "gift", so you will sign up for their list.

These marketers want you to sign up for their list plain and simple. They are giving you an ethical bribe in exchange for your email address. That is how the process works.

Then, hopefully, you will like them, trust them and become a customer.

So is it technically "free"? Well yes. It's free in that there is no cost. It's really an ethical bribe.

Fear not, however.
All reputable marketers will always give you the option of unsubscribing from their list. I will only recommend reputable marketers with honesty and integrity.
